Amethyst Sphere Crystal

Amethyst is a variety of quartz (SiO₂) known for its glassy luster and hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. Its color ranges from light violet to deep purple, caused by iron impurities and natural irradiation. Amethyst forms in geodes and volcanic rocks, with major sources including Brazil, Uruguay, Zambia, and Russia. 

Historically valued for its supposed ability to prevent intoxication, as its name comes from the Greek word amethystos, meaning “not drunk”, it has long been associated with calm, clarity, and spiritual growth. As the birthstone for February, it's widely used in jewelry, though it can fade with prolonged sun exposure. Sometimes heat-treated or found naturally mixed with citrine as ametrine, amethyst remains a favorite for both collectors and those drawn to its metaphysical properties.
