  • This fossilised trilobite is a specimen of Beckidops, an extinct genus of arthropods that roamed ancient sea floors during the Devonian period, approximately 390 million years ago. Displayed on a limestone matrix inside a glass dome bell jar, the trilobite’s intricate exoskeleton and defined segmentation are preserved in remarkable detail.

Beckidops belonged to the order Phacopida, known for their well-developed compound eyes and spiny, ridged carapaces. These agile creatures crawled along the seabed, scavenging detritus or preying on small invertebrates. Their distinctive crescent-shaped cephalon (head) and multi-lobed body give trilobites their name: “three lobes.”

This specimen was excavated from fossil-rich layers in Morocco, a region renowned for yielding some of the world’s finest trilobites. Carefully prepared to reveal its full form, it stands as a vivid remnant of Earth’s early marine ecosystems.

Base: Solid wood hand finished in our studio

The picture shown is an example of the quality that you can expect to receive. Please be aware that, as these are natural products, they are subject to some variation.

  • Name: Beckidops Trilobite
    Age: 350 Million Years Old
    Location: Morocco

Beckidops trilobites are part of the diverse and visually striking Phacopid group, recognised for their detailed segmentation, pronounced glabella (central lobe), and large compound eyes. Their morphology suggests they were active bottom-dwellers, capable of quick movement across ancient seafloors.

The fossil-rich limestone of Morocco’s Anti-Atlas mountains has preserved these trilobites in exceptional clarity, often encased in fine-grained sediment that allows for detailed preparation. This specimen captures the complexity of one of Earth’s earliest and most successful arthropods.

  • From entry level items to collector’s pieces, every artefact we offer is professionally verified for its provenance, legality and authenticity by our network of suppliers and palaeontologists.
