  • Period: Late Cretaceous (82 - 66 million years ago)

    Range: Oceans worldwide

Habitat: Wide range of marine environments (shallow coastal waters, open ocean, some freshwater habitats)

    Size: 1 - 15 metres in length

    Diet: Carnivorous

Despite coexisting for millions of years, Mosasaurs and dinosaurs are not related. Mosasaurs are in fact reptiles, and are closely related to modern day Monitor Lizards. While some species only grew to around 3 ft in length, the biggest could be over 50 ft! They swam using a shark-like tail fin, and had flipper-like limbs for manoeuvrability. Stomach contents of mosasaurs have revealed a varied diet, including fish, sea turtles, plesiosaurs and even sea birds. Although mosasaurs are aquatic, they still breathed air like all reptiles and had to regularly surface to take a breath.

  • This XXL Mosasaur jaw dates to the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 70 to 90 million years ago, and offers a striking reconstruction of one of the ocean’s most formidable marine predators.

Composed of authentic fossil elements, including original teeth set in sections of natural jaw bone, this specimen has been expertly assembled to reflect the anatomical structure and scale of the mosasaur. The result is a unique, one-of-a-kind display piece that brings together exceptional preservation, scientific accuracy, and visual impact.

Recovered from the phosphate beds of North Africa, each fossil component has been carefully cleaned, stabilised, and selected for quality. No two composite jaws are the same, this piece stands as a singular representation of prehistoric life, shaped by both deep time and skilled preparation.

    Base Dimensions: 400x220x60mm

    Total Dimensions: 490x220x290mm
