  • This fossilised vertebra belonged to a Mosasaur, a dominant marine reptile from the Late Cretaceous period, around 70 to 90 million years ago, presented in a museum-quality deep box frame.

Part of the creature’s powerful spine, the vertebra reflects the strength and streamlined build of an apex predator adapted for life in warm, shallow seas. Its surface shows fine preservation, with natural texture and mineralisation from millions of years in sediment.

Recovered from phosphate deposits in North Africa, the specimen has been expertly cleaned and stabilised, offering a direct link to the age of marine reptiles.

    Frame: Satin finished acrylic
Mount: 300 GSM card stock & 2 mm border
    Display: Wall hanging bracket
    Dimensions: 160x160x60mm

The picture shown is an example of the quality that you can expect to receive. Please be aware that, as these are natural products, they are subject to some variation.

  • Period: Late Cretaceous (82 - 66 million years ago)

    Range: Oceans worldwide

Habitat: Wide range of marine environments (shallow coastal waters, open ocean, some freshwater habitats)

    Size: 1 - 15 metres in length

    Diet: Carnivorous

Despite coexisting for millions of years, Mosasaurs and dinosaurs are not related. Mosasaurs are in fact reptiles, and are closely related to modern day Monitor Lizards. While some species only grew to around 3 ft in length, the biggest could be over 50 ft! They swam using a shark-like tail fin, and had flipper-like limbs for manoeuvrability. Stomach contents of mosasaurs have revealed a varied diet, including fish, sea turtles, plesiosaurs and even sea birds. Although mosasaurs are aquatic, they still breathed air like all reptiles and had to regularly surface to take a breath.
