Plesiosaurs were not dinosaurs, although they coexisted throughout their long history. They were aquatic reptiles with long flexible necks, small heads and large, oval-shaped bodies with small tails. They had four fins and a short broad tail for mobility. They mostly fed on fish, cephalopods and mollusks. It is believed that Plesiosaurs did not lay eggs like dinosaurs and modern reptiles, but instead gave birth to live young. New research on plesiosaur fossils provides evidence that plesiosaur babies were poor swimmers and likely required parental care.
