Megalodon is the largest fish to have ever existed. For 13 million years this enormous shark dominated the oceans, preying on dolphins, great whites and whales as big as sperm whales, until its extinction just 3.6 million years ago. Upper estimates place the shark at up to 20 metres in length, and a single tooth can measure 18 cm from base to tip!
A 16 metre long shark could have weighed up to 61.5 metric tons in body mass, and would have needed to consume 98,175 calories of food per day.
