Aletai Meteorite

The Aletai meteorite, previously also known as the Armanty meteorite or Xinjiang meteorite, is one of the largest known iron meteorites ever recovered.

The exact impact date of the Aletai Meteorite is unknown. However, it is believed to have fallen thousands to millions of years ago. Since no historical records mention its fall, scientists estimate its impact occurred in prehistoric times.

The meteorite is primarily composed of iron and nickel. When cut, polished and etched, it reveals a Widmanstätten pattern, a crystalline structure characteristic of meteorites and formed by the slow cooling of iron-nickel alloys in space.

This Aletai Meteorite (4.5 billion years old) has been mounted in a museum quality deep box frame by a member of our in-house team.
