Palaeocarcharodon, also known as the pygmy white shark, contains only one species Paleocarcharodon Orientalis. This shark lived approximately 61.7 to 55.8 million years ago during the Paleocene period. The teeth of Palaeocarcharodon are triangular, with irregular serrations and small lateral cusplets - these are the protruding bumps at the base of the tooth. Some scientists have suggested that this species may be the predecessor of the current white shark and the Carcharodon megalodon.
